Youth Enterprise Education

The Board organises, supports and sponsors a number of initiatives in schools throughout the county as follows:

The Student Enterprise Awards
The Student Enterprise Awards is a start your own business competition which operates annually at second level throughout the county. The Board engage a Schools Enterprise Co-ordinator who assists teachers in delivering enterprise education and helps students to prepare their business projects for this competition. Teachers manuals and Enterprise Workbooks are provided to participating schools and each school holds its own internal competition to choose representatives who will participate in the County final which takes place in March each year. Prizes are awarded for Best Business, Most Innovative and Best Display in Junior, Intermediate and Senior Categories. Winners at the County final proceed to the National Finals, which is usually held in May each year.
South Dublin has had an outstanding record of success at national level with one or more of our county projects achieving awards on an almost annual basis. For more general information on this programme visit the website www.studententerprise.ie

Bi Gnothach
The Board also promotes the Bi Gnothach Enterprise Education programme for use in primary schools since 2005. Multi- media enterprise educational materials are supplied to the teachers and a Schools Coordiantor, engaged by the Board, visits the classrooms to support the students and teachers.

Synergy Student Enterprise Competition
The Board also supports the Synergy Student Enterprise Competition at third level in the IT Dublin in Tallaght. The Board provides funding for the programme as well as participating in the adjudication process.

Business Game
The Board supports and promotes www.businessgame.ie, a free teaching resource for Irish secondary schools. This game enables students to manage and own their own business ( a GAA Sports Store) through a computer game.

To develop and progress our activities in the schools, a Youth Enterprise Committee meets on a consultative basis 3 times per year. This committee comprises representatives of the Board, Primary schools, Secondary schools, the I.T and Dublin West Educational centre.
